Dr. Paul Reilly - Nutrition and Cancer

Dr. Reilly discussed many ideas and much information, in this section we have
compiled some of the major ideas and have them here for your use. See Below.

  • Green Tea:

    -  Helps to not aggravate cancers
      -  For hormonal cancers green tea is very helpful, protects healthy cells
         during radiation and chemotherapy
      -  6-10 cups a day are recommended
  • Fruits and Vegetables:
      -  Broccoli sprouts and cabbage family are high in endols that help in hormone
          responsive cancers
      -  Organic vegetables are up to 10X higher in essential nutrients and vitamins
then other vegetables; fruits, vegies, berries have anti cancer properties
      -  The closer the food is to the soil (ie: excludes long shipping routes, local grown)
the better it is for you; the closer to being in season a vegetable or fruit is the
          better it is for you.
  • Exercise and Diet:
      -  Keeps lymphatic system moving ; exercising from even 10-15 minutes a day
          helps
      -  Natural killer cells become stronger when you exercise
      -  Radical diets hurt killer cells; do not go on radical diets
      -  Avoid sugar (and white flour which stimulates insulin) which is the preferred
"food" for cancer; try stevia as a substitute for sugar
      -  Keep body fat low; fat cells make estrogen which is a risk factor for prostate cancer
      -  The fat from fish and plants have anti-cancer properties
      -  Modified, fractionated citrus pectin is highly recommended before surgery; and
for one year after surgery (coats receptors that lead to metastisis)
  • Dairy and Poultry:
      -  Non-organic and fatty diary products have hormones in them which promote
cancer; use organic and non-fat dairy products
      -  Free range poultry is mostly free of exogenous hormones
  • Vitamins:
      -  Vitamins A & D help cancer cells to behave like normal cells
      -  Vitamins A & D can also help/reverse mutations in cells
  • Glutamine:
      -  Reverses the side effects of Taxol
      -  Reverses effects of gastro-intestinal problems
      -  May increase uptake of chemo into tumors
      -  Helps with irritation of the GI tract
(5-10 grams 2-3 times a day to be effective)
  • Avoid:
      -  Sugar, red meat, stress and lack of exercise

    Recommended:
    -  Fish, fruits, vegies, soy, green tea, exercise, maintaining normal weight
